The tracked excavator is the most commonly recognized excavator that can dig trenches, load trucks, lift pipe, and handle attachments, such as hydraulic breakers, shears, and grapples. This kind of machines range in size from the "mini" that fits through a back-yard gate, to those in mining applications and have operating weights of a quarter million pounds or more.

2. Wheeled Excavator

The wheeled excavator is the same as a regular excavator but is equipped with wheels instead of tracks. The past several years have seen the growing for their use in city projects, wheeled excavators are becoming more and more popular. When choosing a tracked excavator or a wheeled excavator, you must take the terrain, stability, nature of the job, transportation, budget, etc. into consideration.

Vacuum excavators use water jets and a high-pressure vacuum to clear dirt, earth, and debris. Operated out of a wheeled vehicle, the vacuum excavator is used for underground applications, debris cleanup and other delicate excavation projects.

5. Long Reach Excavator

The long reach excavators are good for heavy-duty digging and industrial demo projects because their arms can extend up to 100 feet with attachments.

6. Mini Excavator

Mini excavator is a compact and smaller version of a tracked excavator. It is often referred to mini diggers. Mini excavators are useful in narrow job sites, job sites with obstacles, and jobs with delicate terrain like landscaping. Mini excavators have zero tail-wing capability so that they are ideal for small jobs like home jobs and DIY landscape projects.
